  2. One challenge I’m having with writing the personal narratives is how to keep showing not telling. One way I’m trying to overcome the challenge is by stopping myself and thinking of what I would see in that moment then describing it with words.

  3. One challenge I'm having with writing with the personal narrative is dropping my self in the story and putting the details in because it was so long ago. One way im trying to overcome that challenge is to looking at pictures of the time.

  4. One challenge I'm having with writing the personal narrative is thinking of ideas to write about. One way I'm trying to overcome that challenge is to make a list of things I can write about for everything.

  5. The biggest challenge I'm having with the personal narrative is just choosing the right topic. I have three ideas that I really want to write about but I just can't decide which one to choose. The three ideas are all different. One is about a special person in my life, the second one is about my favorite sport and what it means to me, and the third idea is about a sad moment in my life.

The way I am trying to overcome this challenge is by waiting. I plan to write out a draft for each story and then see which one I am able to really focus and expand on. At that point I hope I am able to pick the perfect topic. Wish me luck!!

  6. One challenge I'm having with writing a personal narrative is getting my thoughts on the page. I have a lot of ideas in my head, but when we need to write one of our experiences, all of mine seem unworthy of writing about, or I forget them an just write about my dog. One way I'm trying to over come that challenge is I write any good idea I have on a piece of paper and pull it out when we need to write. I try to think about which of my experiences would make a good story as much as possible.

  7. One way to over come any challenges are to ask a teacher or ask a friend and try to learn what they are telling you.

  8. One challenge im having with writing the personal narrative is putting in all the detail. one way im trying to ovecome that challenge is to think back to when the event happened to gather as much datail as i can. Its kind of hard for me to get all of the detail because most of the events im writng about happened whe i was 4 or 5 years old.

  9. One challange that I have with writting personal narratives, is when you have to think back to times in your life when you have a story that you remember clearly, and that gave you strong emotion. It is hard for me to think of stories without telling because I often forget how I was like at a certain age, or what my reactions were like to certain situations. One way that I'm tring to overcome this challange is that I try to "drop" myself into a certain year of my life. I try to think of what events were happening to me that year, what were my personality traits, who were my main influences, and what were my values at that time.

  15. The one thing im having trouble with is probablythinking on how to write out my narrative story,I mean that like I have it played out in my head just like you tell us to, but when I try to write it out there seems to be too many details and I dont want to sound boring by doing that because then a whole page would be about how the door in the beginning of my story would look like! But fortunatley I have found a way to stay away from making to many details, all I have to do is that when I feel my hand getting too tired from writing ill just look over at what I had written so far and see if it doesnt have alot of details oabout the door, and it works!

  18. one trouble I'm having with the personal narrative writing piece is the show don't tell. I just don't know how to explain to the reader how the scene happened with out telling them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm also having trouble on the detail like mat. and also because its hard to get all the detail into a story. your trying to focus on the scene and all different things are pooping up in your mind.

  21. Elise, I understand your problem. I have the same one myself. Sometimes you might recall an emotion when you're not in English. Write the emotion down. It'll help so much. I did that today in Writers Workshop and it really helped me.

  22. Michhelleex5, it is hard to remember the times of your life. Looking at old pictures is a good idea but another suggestion is to talk to the people who were involved in the moment. Maybe they can recall what happened and remind you of forgotten details.

I also liked the way you used the phrase "dropping myself into the story". That phrase is so desciptive because when you put it that way it sounds like you are looking down at the scene and observing it up close and personal.

  23. One challange that i have that i have with writing my personal narrative is "Show Don't Tell" because It's hard for me not to tell the readers where I'm at or what am I doing or what am I seeing. I am digging hard into my brain to think of how can i show but dont tell.

One way i'm trying to overcome that challenge is to get some advice from my family who knows about show don't tell amd maybe i could see how easy it is to write show don't tell.

  25. A problem i'm having in my personal narrative is the fact that i cant remember.because the memory i chose is so deep and upsetting i think i tried to block it out.so now trying to remember is difficult. But i think if i just asked my family aabout what happend that day i could write from that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Amy, I have the same problem all of my ideas just seem to drift away from me when its time to write them all down. I think I'll try your idea of writing good ideas down on a piece of paper and see how that works.

    -Kylie Harris

  29. One problem I am trying to overcome in writing the personal narrative is that I can't remember any good, meaningful, stories to write about. One way I can solve this is by writing down all the ideas as soon as they pop into my head. That way, I won't forget them later.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Michhellex5, I also have a problem with remembering ideas to write about. Another way that helped me remember good ideas is to ask your friends and family(that were there) about what happened during an event that you might not clearly remember. It has helped me many times before.

  31. One challenge I have with personal narratives is writing the right amount of details and showing not telling. And I agree with Michelle, it's hard to drop yourself in the moment if it's a little blurry. One strategy I use to help with my problem is I writer with as much detail as I want, and if it's too much, I can always edit it out later.

  32. One challenge I am having with my writing is that I can't really pick the best draft . I think that all of my ideas are important but if I choose something, I end up not liking what I chose.
One way I will try to overcome this is to write down all of them and see which one I feel most comfartable with and which one I like to write about more

  33. I have the same problem freddy. I don't know if I have to much detail or to little. What I do is that I just keep adding detail until it is exactly like the scene.

  34. One challenge I am having with writing my personal narrative is trying to remember what happened with great details. I have trouble staying focused on one topic. I have all these ideas but I don't know what to start my narrative with.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thinking up the story is the easy part, but its hard to know how much to describe something or how much you have to take out of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  36. xKiMix888, I don't know who you are, but I really must agree with you. I really like thinking of a story in my head, but I can't really make the story on paper. D= But other than that, I'm almost okay.

  38. One challenge I'm having with writing the personal narrative is thinking about an idea to write about that I havent already wrote about in the past because in the past I have wrote atleast 4 personal narratives. One way I'm trying to overcome that challenge is to thinking about stuff that has happened in my life that was very important but that I havent wrote about....its kind of hard.

I agree with Elise,it is hard to think back and remember what happened clearly, and I also try to "drop" into my writing but I dont really know how to.

  42. Like Julia said i am having some trouble with the show don't tell. I am trying my best to show it not tell it. Like if somebody is sad dont just say the person was sad say the person had rivers coming down her face the whole night. It will make the story so.. much better!

  44. one Challenge im having with writing a personal narrative is reallying focasing in on the time and place im writing about. One way i overcome it is just taking a second to stop, think, and try to see were I was and how I really felt.

  46. One challenge im having with writing the personal narrative is that I dont know what story to choose to write about. Sometimes i like a write a good draft but I dont remember all the details to go with it so I cant finish it. One way I'm trying to overcome this challenge is to think really hard and try to remember what happened. If that doesnt work I imagine what most likely would of happened.

Please go there and respond to that post, then also make sure to comment on someone else's post. The other part of the blog homework is in the Independent Readers.
